California International Patent Attorney Eric Hanscom, is Of Counsel to the Law Firm of R. Sebastian Gibson and has offices in the Carlsbad area of San Diego. He is a member of the California State Bar and is also admitted to practice before the United States Patent Bar. He graduated from UCSB in 1981 with two B.A.s in Biology and Environmental Studies, from Hastings College of the law in 1985, and also completed two years toward a Ph.D. in cell biology.

Besides being responsible for generating patents on plants, business methods, electrical and mechanical devices, negotiating and drafting licensing agreements in the semiconductor and electrical accessory fields, he also advises on litigation strategies and works with outside litigation counsel to bring legal action under 271(a), (b), and (g), preparing and prosecuting numerous patent (utility, design, and provisional), trademark, and copyright applications.

Mr. Hanscom's work also includes numerous trips to Asia to work with factories and other invention hotbeds to determine patentability and infringement, preparing invention disclosures, preparing draft patent applications, overseeing prosecution and direction of cases, and strategizing on what subject matter to file on, where and when to file cases, and what type of intellectual property protection method to use.

Mr. Hanscom also has particular experience with European Registered Design patents and obtaining quick (4 months start to finish) and inexpensive coverage of the entire European Union through this program.
